Introducing Our Nouveau Norton
We are excited to announce the release of our Nouveau Norton. It’s fresh and fruity, with a finish of developing tannins. We serve it chilled to make it extra fun. It is a fantastic food wine as well as a front porch sipper. Due to this coming from a very young vineyard, we had limited production. Because of this, we made the decision to offer it on tap instead of going to bottle. It is definitely a limited-time offering and will surely not last long.
The Norton grape is a pretty special grape here in the USA. It is not a vinifera or a hybrid. It is most likely a cross created in the wild in the eighteenth century, though that is largely a guess. The species is called aestivalis, an American original species. Norton became famous during the years of the phylloxera epidemic for producing wines of great distinction while many countries could not produce any wine at all. In particular, the state of Missouri was a great benefactor of this wine crisis. Their production of Norton wines was recognized globally for its quality. This rich winemaking success with the Norton grape in Missouri is what led the U.S. government to select Augusta as the first AVA —that’s right, before Napa!
Norton also performs excellently in North Carolina, Virginia, and even Canada. We proudly serve this American classic to you here in the Yadkin Valley. Come have some before this vintage becomes history.
